Sometimes he feared what society told him would happen already did.
He was afraid that commitment would lead to boredom. That finding love so soon would create room for future negative implications, for straying away and for finding other little loves.
Sometimes, when he put her brush away in the morning, twisting out the golden red strands as he went, he feared what she told him would happen already did.
He was afraid that they would fall too deeply in love. That finding their way out of the hole they dug themselves would leave no room for future positive additions, for bringing others in and for finding other little loves.
But most times, as now, when he was watching her write, watching her pour her passion into something that wasn’t himself, he feared what he told himself would happen already did.
He was afraid that she would leave him behind. That having so much big love would leave nothing for him, for his future or for any of his other little loves.
